It was my pleasure to attend the Stamford Mayor – Making ceremony this year. Stamford Town Council – formerly the Borough Council for the area – has a prestigious history of Mayors dating back to the 1600s. Within the town hall – in the courtroom – there are several hand-painted boards, which chart the chronology of the Mayors. It’s remarkable that the boards survive, even more so that this ceremony remains unchanged, all these years later.
I am pleased to see my good friend and colleague David Taylor proposed as Mayor for 2022. He has done much for the town in his eight years as a Councillor, including helping to create the Local Neighbourhood Plan – which concentrates on ensuring a sensible approach to development, to protect the heritage of our beautiful town – as well as introducing plans for the Stamford ‘Green Wheel’ – an initiative to help reduce traffic within key areas of the town centre.
I was delighted to capture his special day and look forward to working with him during the course of his tenure.
